What is Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)?

ABA is the gold standard for treatment for Autism Spectrum Disorder. Medical, psychological, educational and behavioral health communities recognize it as the most effective treatment, and it’s supported by over 30 years of research. Insurance coverage for ABA treatment is required by law in the United States. Services are provided in the setting that would be most beneficial to the child and recommended and agreed upon by the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and caregivers. Services may take place in  your child’s home, community, school, or center based treatment. Each individual receiving ABA has a uniquely designed treatment plan and or Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) based on a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) that is completed by a BCBA. ABA is a hard science that uses evidence-based practice to teach socially significant behavior and adaptive behavior skills to promote independence and success in school and life.

What is Autism?

Autism is formally known as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). It’s a neurological and developmental disorder that affects how people interact with others, communicate, learn, and behave. Symptoms usually present during early childhood. No one knows the exact cause and research is still being done to determine genetic and environmental factors. ASD affects children and adults of all different backgrounds, races, ethnicities, and socio-economic conditions. It exists on a spectrum, meaning that some people are more severely impacted and some exhibit less symptoms. Research shows that the biggest factor in reducing the symptoms of autism is the frequency and duration of ABA services. The more hours of ABA a child receives, the greater likelihood that they will make significant gains.
